Arts For Life Staff Spotlight: Meet Leigh!

In this series, we’ll highlight the staff members who make up the incredible Arts For Life team.

Home chapter:

What is something you love about your job?

I love that my job allows me to witness everyone’s unique  imagination and creativity. There is never one art project that turns out the same. I also love learning things from my patients like new art skills, ideas, the latest and greatest trends and of course how to be hip with tic tok! My role in the hematology/oncology clinic gives me the opportunity to see my patients and families continuously and allows me to form relationships that I cherish. Some of the families I work with are huge Harry Potter fans, like myself, and I love playing Harry Potter trivia while we make art during their appointments!

What is your favorite kind of art to make?

My personal favorite medium is watercolor and contour lines. I also enjoy turning 2D drawings into 3D shapes

Name one or two artists who inspire you.

Shell Rummel

Sabrina Ward Harrison

What is your favorite internet art resource ?

Honestly, Pinterest is an app/website I use every day for inspiration and enjoyment.

What is your favorite art supply?

Koi Watercolors I love that this koi set comes in a little compact kit with areas for mixing and a waterbrush you can use too!

Also I always go back to the Prang watercolor set I have as well, very pretty cool colors in this set.

Micron Ink Pen Set I use these for small details, writing text on cards, outlining after I’ve painted some watercolor, contour drawing etc. They come in all different sizes for different detail

Liquid watercolors– If you’ve never tried and you like watercolor and the soothing part of blending colors- give these a try!

Liquid Masking Fluid If you want to get really fancy try this out! It is a step up from using crayons/wax/pastels for a ‘resist’ effect when painting with watercolor. You can paint it on and get more detail.

If there was a world free from illness and disabilities, where Arts For Life didn’t need to exist,  what kind of job would you have?

In my dream world I would either be a photographer for National Geographic or run a pet therapy organization and have a farm with lots of dogs:)

What are two things you’re grateful for right now?

Love and nature.

Leigh and her dog, Toby
